Streamlining Operations at a Prominent Mine
A Journey from Casual Conversations to Measurable Results
It all began with a series of phone calls and emails with a representative from a well-known mine. We were in contact regarding the purchase of bailers and other water quality equipment. However, our professional relationship took a significant turn when we finally met face-to-face at the Denver Mining Expo.
Before our intervention, the mine was grappling with inconsistent data due to the use of different sampling pumps and methods for their diverse wells. They had been using electric submersibles, peristaltic pumps, and bladder pumps, each suited to different depths and geological areas. The wells' recharge rates varied widely - some recharged slowly, while others very quickly. This inconsistency not only complicated sampling but was also time-consuming and labor-intensive. Sampling often required two people and several days, extending more if any technical issues or as adverse weather conditions arose.
We installed 24 dedicated bladder pumps and several CT2X sensors at their site.
Geotech GeoSmart dedicated Bladder Pump systems changed everything. After each installation, we recorded fill and discharge times to facilitate future sampling. As a result, the entire monthly sampling process can now be completed by a single person in less than a day. This efficiency has saved the mine hundreds of consulting man-hours billed each year, amounting to thousands over the project's lifespan. The money saved is now being invested back into purchasing more Geotech Bladder Pumps and CT2X sensors.
But the benefits didn't stop there. The streamlining of the pumps led to the development of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These new SOPs simplified the mine's processes for future wells, making the data and samples collected universally homogenous. With our general groundwater sampling SOP, there's no more guesswork about data integrity or sampling methods.
